Vaginal Rejuvenation in Atlanta and Sandy Springs, GA

What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation encompasses the improvement of vaginal concerns, such as dryness, decreased sensation, and a feeling of loose tissues and lack of support.  Vaginal rejuvenation can help improve intimate sensation with sexual intercourse, improve lubrication, and even address stress urinary incontinence, or the annoying spillage of urine with sneezing or exercise some women experience after pregnancy or childbirth.  With advances in new technology, it is essential for our patients to have a thorough understanding of all available treatment options and to have clear expectations for both treatment options and their outcome.  This is where the expertise and experience of our staff is paramount.

The Aviva staff is amazing! They always made me feel comfortable when I went in for my Votiva services and kept me informed every part of the way. I am more than satisfied with my results and will be referring my friends to Aviva. Thank you!

Votiva Vaginal Rejuvenation

Votiva vaginal rejuvenation is a popular, non-surgical treatment to rejuvenate the tissues of the vagina.  Votiva works by delivering gentle heat energy to the lining of the vaginal canal and the labia, or folds of skin around the vaginal opening, and this energy rejuvenates the tissues by stimulating new collagen formation and improving the health and nature of the tissue’s consistency. Votiva’s specialized bipolar radiofrequency energy helps tighten vaginal tone and stimulates better tissue quality; treats vaginal dryness by increasing moisture and lubrication; and improves sensitivity of the vaginal and labial tissues with sexual stimulation.  This non-surgical treatment is painless, has no downtime, and is frequently combined with other sexual health treatments for greatest benefits.

Votiva FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Who is a good candidate for Votiva vaginal rejuvenation?  Women who want to improve their intimate health; treat changes after pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause; or suffering from stress urinary incontinence or bladder leakage may benefit from Votiva vaginal rejuvenation. Individuals bothered by vaginal laxity or looseness; dryness; and decreased sensitivity may benefit from Votiva treatments as part of vaginal rejuvenation.
  • Who is not a good candidate for Votiva treatments?  Votiva treatments should be avoided in the setting of pregnancy; a recent history of abnormal PAP smears; and an active vaginal or labial infection. Individuals with extensive pelvic reconstructive or vaginal surgery may not note the benefits of Votiva treatments; while these individuals can still be treated with Votiva, they may need more treatments or combination therapies to note improvement, or may not note improvement at all.
  • How is the Votiva treatment performed? During a Votiva treatment, our expert staff uses a small amount of warmed ultrasound gel on a slim Votiva probe to glide over the tissues of the vaginal canal and labia, delivering radiofrequency heat energy to these areas over the course of approximately 30 minutes. Depending on each patient’s individual concerns and needs, our staff treats the vaginal canal, labia minora (inner lips of tissue around the vaginal opening), labia majora (outer lips of tissue around the vaginal opening), the clitoris, the clitoral hood (fold of skin around the clitoris), and the tissue around the urethral opening (the tube carrying urine from the bladder to the outside world). Because Votiva is not painful, no numbing or anesthesia is required for treatment. We encourage patients to receive 3 Votiva treatments as an initial treatment; each treatment should be done 3-8 weeks apart. We also recommend a once-yearly treatment of Votiva to continue enjoying its benefits.
  • Is Votiva painful?  Not at all.  Votiva treatments are most frequently described as a warm massage of the vaginal and labial tissues. Our patients do not describe any pain or discomfort during or after treatments, and return immediately to work and social commitments after treatment.
  • What should I avoid after Votiva treatments?  There is nothing to avoid after Votiva treatments. Our patients are encouraged to return to work and social activities immediately after Votiva treatment. Because Votiva has no post-treatment downtime, patients may resume use of tampons and sexual intercourse without delay.
  • How long do the benefits of Votiva treatments last? Studies show that the benefits of Votiva last 9-12 months after the initial treatment series. Because of this, we recommend an annual touch-up treatment of Votiva for patients interested in vaginal rejuvenation.

Exploring Your Vaginal Rejuvenation Options

Vaginal rejuvenation isn’t one single procedure.  The term is an umbrella phrase that covers a large number of non-surgical therapies, surgeries, and minimally-invasive laser treatments that address concerns related to the external labia, vagina, and the pelvic floor.

Choosing the right rejuvenation treatment depends on each woman’s goals.  While some may be thinking of the cosmetic advantages that come with vaginal rejuvenation, others are considering the treatment to address medical concerns, such as post-pregnancy changes in vaginal sensation, and stress urinary incontinence.  The most common forms of intimate rejuvenation at Aviva Plastic Surgery include the following:

For some women, the labia majora (the outer lips of tissue making up a woman’s external genitals) and the labia minora (the internal folds or lips of tissue surrounding the vaginal opening) can be overly long or have significant asymmetry.  This can be both cosmetically concerning and uncomfortable; the increased length of the labia can become caught during intercourse, during exercise (such as spinning or riding a bike), or with tight clothing.  In patients with these concerns, labiaplasty can reduce the length and volume of the labia.  During a surgical labiaplasty, we remove excess tissue of the labia and stitch it back together with tiny absorbable sutures.  In contrast, a non-surgical labiaplasty allows us to reduce the volume and tighten the tissues of the excess labia using radiofrequency-generated heat.  The results of labiaplasty can be life-changing.  In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery, surgical labiaplasty has a near 90% patient satisfaction rate.

Recovery after a labiaplasty is generally straightforward.  Most women take about a week off from work, during which they can use cold packs to help reduce swelling.  Within 4-6 weeks, most are able to engage in intercourse and use tampons again.  While the most noticeable swelling typically disappears by 6 weeks post-surgery, patients may experience some minor swelling for up to six months following treatment.  The recovery after non-surgical labiaplasty is generally shorter than that of surgical labiaplasty.

The rejuvenative power of our body and tissues is amazing, and we frequently harness the healing abilities of your platelets, plasma, growth factors, and stem cells to improve the health of the labia and vagina.  We perform fat transfer to the labia to treat volume loss and improve sensation.  We also frequently inject PRP (platelet-rich plasma) to the tissues of the labia and vagina to increase new collagen production and improve intimate sensation.  Fat transfer and PRP injections can be stand-alone procedures, and are frequently combined with non-surgical vaginal tightening as well as surgical labiaplasty for comprehensive intimate rejuvenation.

Excess tissue of the clitoral hood—the fold of tissue just above and around the clitoris— can also be a source of self-consciousness for some women, particularly as it can create the appearance of a bulge or imbalance, or interfere with sexual function by decreasing clitoral sensitivity.  To improve the aesthetics and function of this area, some patients may choose to undergo clitoral hood reduction.  During this procedure, we trim extra tissue of the clitoral hood, and closes the incision site with small, absorbable stitches.  We often choose to pair a clitoral hood reduction with a labiaplasty to ensure the changes to the vagina’s external structures appear balanced and harmonious.

A clitoral hood reduction is associated with both aesthetic and functional benefits.  While some women are concerned about the impact of a clitoral hood reduction on clitoral sensation, the scientific literature shows that this treatment increases clitoral sensitivity and stimulation by exposing more of the clitoris’ surface area.

While most of us group the treatments related to the labia, mons, pelvic floor, and vagina under vaginal rejuvenation, the vagina itself can benefit from therapies targeting dryness, post-pregnancy and childbirth changes, lax tissues, and decreased sensation. Weakened muscles and tissue laxity within the vagina are common among women following pregnancy, childbirth, and weight changes, and can be a significant source of self-consciousness.  In extreme cases, the vaginal muscles can become so loose that they cannot hold in a tampon or can hinder a woman’s sexual function.  For patients with these concerns, Votiva vaginal therapy can be a great solution.

Votiva is non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation at Aviva Plastic Surgery.  During this painless, non-invasive treatment, we apply topical radiofrequency-generated heat to the tissues of the vagina, stimulating the formation of new collagen, tightening tissue, and improving vaginal lubrication.  A short treatment which offers no downtime, Votiva non-surgical vaginal rrejuvenation results in noticeable functional improvement after 2-3 treatments, and is one of the most popular women’s wellness treatments among our patients.

Vaginal rejuvenation can also include augmentation of the G-spot and labia for both functional and appearance improvement. We often treat the G-spot, a highly sensitive area of nerve tissue within the vaginal wall important for sexual function, with platelet-rich plasma and injectable dermal fillers; these treatments help improve sexual sensitivity and satisfaction for the right patient.  Filler can be added to the labia majora, or outer lips of skin around the vaginal opening, to improve the appearance and feel of labia affected by deflation or volume loss.
