MOLE REMOVAL SURGERY: TREATMENT DETAILS

Dr. Fishman removes moles under local anesthesia. During removal, Dr. Fishman performs:

A shave biopsy: the mole is removed flush with the skin, leaving a round reddish scar that eventually fades to normal skin color
An excisional biopsy: the mole is excised with a deep component of the underlying skin, and the skin edges are sutured together. This results in a linear scar that eventually fades to a flesh tone.

AFTER SURGERY

  1. You will have some swelling, bruising, and paleness about the treated area.
  2. You may have some discomfort, which should be controlled with oral pain medications.
  3. Cool compresses should be used on the treated area as instructed.
  4. Stitches are usually removed at 7-10 days after surgery.
