Description

This 26-year-old woman came to our practice interested in improving the feel and appearance of her inner labia. She reported feeling uncomfortable with intermittent pinching and having the inner labial tissues get caught with sitting starting at age 13 years old. She complained of needing to rearrange her labial skin frequently in her clothing, and disliking the appearance of the inner labia protruding beyond the level of the outer labia.  She has not been pregnant or delivered children in the past.  On exam, she had moderately long labia minora tissue, a moderate amount of clitoral hood redundancy redundancy, and some volume loss on her labia majora (outer folds of skin around the vaginal opening).

We treated this patient with a bilateral (both-sided) curvilinear labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction to take away the excessively long inner labial skin and contour the too-long tissues around the clitoris for overall aesthetic balance.  The patient also received fat grafting to her labia majora.  The patient is shown just 12 days after her labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction surgery, with a beautiful result and improved symmetry.  She has normal and expected resolving swelling, and her tissues will continue to become less puffy in appearance over the next 6 months.

Our patient had her treatment awake and relaxed in the comfort and privacy of our clinic, and was excited to see her results immediately after surgery.  She did not receive general anesthesia, and was very comfortable during her treatment with relaxing medications, ProNox (laughing gas), and injected numbing medicine.

Labia and vaginas come in an wide array of normal shapes and sizes.  While they have normal anatomy, some women feel uncomfortable with too-long or stretched or asymmetric labial tissues, which can develop after puberty, weight changes, pregnancy, or childbirth.  We frequently combine labiaplasty procedures with clitoral hood reduction, perineoplasty, fat grafting for volume restoration, growth factor injections for improved sensitivity and sexual health, and vaginal rejuvenation to achieve optimal intimate health for our patients.

About Surgical Labiaplasty

Enlarged or uneven labia minora (the inner lips of tissue surrounding the vaginal opening) are effectively treated with the common (though uncommonly discussed) procedure called labiaplasty.  For most women, the labia minora are for the most part covered by the labia majora (outer lips).  In others, however, genetics, puberty, aging and pregnancy can cause the inner lips to extend beyond the outer lips.  Some women can experience discomfort and irritation with overly long labia minora, leading to discomfort in clothing, during exercise, and with sexual relationships, while other women may just be bothered by the appearance of the labia.  Labiaplasty treatments can address these concerns. We have expertise in both surgical and non-surgical labiaplasty to help women feel their most confident and address any intimate anatomy concerns.Learn More About Surgical Labiaplasty
