Unwanted hair is a common concern for both our male and female patients, and modern-day laser hair therapy helps make smooth, bare skin a reality without the pain or time spent on waxing, sugaring, or shaving. Laser hair removal helps reduce hair growth permanently and effectively, using advanced technology for a comfortable treatment and effective, long-lasting results.
Laser hair removal (LHR) also known as permanent laser hair reduction is a treatment which uses laser energy to target and damage the hair follicle, or the hair bulb. With the laser hair technology continuously refined since the 1990s, laser hair removal treatments permanently reduce hair growth, resulting in smoother, bare skin and fewer ingrown hairs. While laser hair removal does not take away 100% of hair, a series of treatment reduce the density of hair with high efficacy and great patient satisfaction. Laser hair removal treatments are safe and appropriate for individuals with a wide variety of skin tones, and offer little to no downtime.
I love the results of my {laser hair removal} treatments! I love not having to shave, and not having ingrown hair, and having more time to devote to other things. My only regret is not having done this sooner!

Laser hair removal treatments are usually short and do not require numbing medication. In preparation for laser hair removal, the to-be-treated skin should be shaved no more than 1-2 days before treatment. Because laser hair reduction treatment target the hair follicle, this should be intact for best results; waxing and sugaring should be avoided for 6-8 weeks before laser hair treatments. Before treatment, your skin is cleaned and covered with a thin layer of clear ultrasound or water-based gel; you are provided with specially protective eye glasses; and the hair reduction laser handpiece is applied to the skin to deliver laser energy. LHR treatments feel like a combination of tiny “zaps” or pinpricks and soothing cooling sensation. Immediately after treatment, the cooling ultrasound gel is removed from your skin. After treatment, your skin feels normal or may have mild redness. Gentle moisturization and avoidance of harsh exfoliation is recommended for a few days after laser hair removal treatments. Â
The main benefit of laser hair removal is reduced hair growth and density. Ingrown hairs disappear, as does the need for shaving and painful waxing.
Areas which can be treated with laser hair removal are:
Men and women in good health and without severe skin disorders skin disorders are generally good candidates for laser hair removal treatments. Laser hair removal does not effectively treat hair which is blonde, red, or grey in color, as brown and black pigments are best targeted by treatment. Best candidates for laser hair removal treatments should have mature, realistic expectations of long-lasting hair reduction (as opposed to 100% absence of hair) and should expect 3-8 treatment sessions for best hair reduction results.Â
There is no best time of the year for laser hair removal treatments, but we do recommend avoiding tanning for at least 2 months before treatments.
Most patients don’t have a significant recovery after laser hair removal. The treated skin will commonly have a small amount of redness and mild swelling, which resolves within a few hours after laser hair removal treatments. Very rarely there can be small bumps of inflammation lasting around treated hair follicles for several days, and this swelling, if excessive, can be treated with antihistamine medications like Zyrtec or Benadryl. The vast majority of patients treated with laser hair removal return to their normal work and social activities immediately after treatment.   Â
The technology behind laser hair removal is advanced and has a lot of built-in safety features to make laser hair removal treatments a very safe procedure. The risks of laser hair removal are small, and include excessive skin redness and/ or swelling; crusting, blistering, and burns; and changes in skin pigmentation (such as darkening or lightening of the skin). Laser treatment can cause increased hair growth in some individuals, with highest risk groups being women of a Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and South Asian background treated on the face and neck. Â
Most head and neck hair responds well to 4-6 treatment sessions, while more coarse body hair usually requires 6-8+ treatment sessions for best results. Duration between treatments is typically 4-6 weeks apart for facial hair, and 6-8 weeks for body hair, with subsequent treatment intervals being longer apart to accommodate for less hair growth. Â
