Morpheus8 is a full-body treatment and can be used anywhere there is skin. At Aviva Plastic Surgery, we most often use this treatment on the face, neck, and décolletage area. Who is a Good Candidate for Morpheus Treatments?

Men and women in reasonably good health and without severe skin disorders seeking to improve their appearance are typically good candidates for Morpheus treatment. Those individuals bothered by the appearance of loose, saggy skin, sun damage, deep lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, or acne scarring may benefit from the microneedling radiofrequency skin rejuvenation powers of Morpheus.

As a good candidate for Morpheus8, one should be in good health, show great physical and psychological maturity, and have realistic goals and expectations. Morpheus treatments may be performed in combination with liposuction, FaceTite, AccuTite, or as a standalone procedure. How Are Morpheus8 Treatments Done?

After a thorough analysis of treatment benefits and risks, our staff prepares the patient for Morpheus8 treatments by taking clinical photographs and applying topical numbing or freezing cream to ensure comfort. Some areas may require small injections of numbing medications for a more thorough and comfortable treatment. Once the skin is sufficiently numbed and cleaned, our staff uses the Morpheus handpiece to treat the area in question. After applying the correct handpiece, 16 tiny needles heated with radiofrequency simultaneously penetrate the skin and underlying fat. This microneedling and heating combination treatment stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins essential for youthful skin elasticity, to allow for a smoother texture and more even skin tone, with minimal damage to the external skin.Our staff commonly combines Morpheus8 treatments with PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, which helps patients recover more quickly and gain even greater benefits from these rejuvenating treatments. What is the Recovery Like After Morpheus8 Treatments?

Most patients undergoing Morpheus8 treatments look a bit pink and mildly swollen for a few hours to a day after treatments. The vast majority of patients return to work and social responsibilities after one day or a weekend of recovery, sometimes with minimal makeup and often with bare, fresh skin.

Our post-treatment instructions after Morpheus8 treatments include:

Makeup may be applied to the treated area 1-2 days after treatment.
Strenuous exercise or any physical activity that results in sweating is to be avoided for 3-4 days post-treatment.
There may be slight swelling and redness up to 6-7 days after treatment.
Patients should moisturize the treated area with Aquaphor or another recommended remedy 1-2 days after treatment.
Patients should avoid direct sunlight, especially without sunblock, for up to 2 weeks after treatment.

What Are the Risks of Morpheus8 Treatments?

No medical treatment is without the chance of possible complications, and while there are risks to receiving the Morpheus8 treatment, these are minimal and usually very short-lived. Some of these risks include swelling and redness of the treated areas, temporary itchiness or irritation, and tiny points of bleeding or bruising at the treatment sites.

Our staff sees infection as a very rare complication of Morpheus8 treatments. To minimize this risk, Dr. Fishman prescribes a prophylactic course of anti-viral medications to patients with an extensive cold sore history. Patients with darker skin tones, or those prone to hyperpigmentation, are placed on a pre-treatment skin preparation regimen, which aims to minimize the risk of inflammatory-related skin hyperpigmentation after Morpheus treatments.

When Will I See Results after Morpheus Treatments?

Because Morpheus treatments work by stimulating skin turnover and collagen production, the initial results are noticeable within 3-4 weeks after treatment. Complete results are seen roughly 3-4 months after treatments. Our staff encourages patients to view Morpheus as a maintenance treatment as well, helping to improve and prolong the results after liposuction, surgery, and skin resurfacing procedures such as laser and chemical peels. The longevity of improvement after Morpheus treatments—given a healthy lifestyle and diet, and proper weight maintenance—is likely years.
