Facial Rejuvenation: What is a Deep Plane Neck Lift?

As we age, we tend to lose collagen and our skin loses its laxity causing it to droop and sag making us look older. Weight may also play a factor in this as well. Some individuals who are on a weight loss journey may notice excess skin in areas after they have lost a certain amount of weight. Or if an individual has gained weight recently, they may not be pleased with the changes it can make to your facial appearance.

A deep plane neck lift is a surgical cosmetic procedure that address the fullness under the chin, jawline, and neck area. The procedure involves the removal of excessive skin, fat, tissue, and the repair of muscle bands within the neck to give a tighter and younger appearance.

How is this done?

This procedure is done in the operating room and usually take about 2 hours but can take up to for 4 hours if additional work is needed such as a facelift. Your surgeon will make a small incision underneath the chin to gain access to the neck region. They will remove some of the fat pads, tissue, glands, and repair muscles that give patients that aging appearance. The surgeon may use a little liposuction in addition to this to help remove some of the fat.

How long is the recovery?

It will take about 2-3 weeks to be socially presentable after a neck lift. The patient will experience some pain, swelling, and bruising after surgery but this should reduce within a week or two and you will be presentable to go out in public again. Cool compresses and arnica supplements will help minimize the swelling and bruising to help with recovery.

How long does a deep plane neck lift last?

A surgical neck lift can last about 10+ years based on an individual’s age when the procedure was done and how well they maintained their health and skin over the years. Please also keep in mind that a revision is also a risk of any surgery.
