HAND REJEUVENATION

OUR HANDS AGE?

Commonly, patients will focus on rejuvenation treatments that center on the face. However, the face isn’t the only area affected by age; your hands may give away your real age! As we age, fat and collagen begin to naturally dissipate, even in our hands. The aging process causes a loss of volume and smoothness in the hands. This leads the appearance of veins and tendons to be more pronounced. The hands can be a tell tale sign of aging and can even take on an older appearance than the rest of your body. Luckily, hand rejuvenation can be used to restore youth to our hands.

WHAT IS HAND REJUVENATION TREATMENT?

In order to address volume loss, Dr. Fishman recommends dermal fillers, most often Radiesse. Radiesse acts instantly to restore volume, but also stimulates your skin to produce more collagen, leading to improvement weeks after treatment. Unlike other fillers, Radiesse relies on calcium microspheres to help with collagen-poor skin and improve volume. The added volume reduces the appearance of bones, veins, and tendons helping to make your hands appear plumper and more youthful. Derma fillers also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and minimize loose skin. Radiesse lasts for about 1 year, with some patients seeing results for up to 2-3 years.

At Aviva Plastic Surgery, Dr. Fishman performs the procedure in office with the help of topical numbing medication. The procedure is effective, with minimal downtime; most patients can return to daily activities right after the treatment. Still, redness swelling is not uncommon after treatment, although these issues should resolve on their own after about one week. Radiesse has been approved by the FDA as safe and effective for hand rejuvenation.

Like any other skin, your hands are susceptible to sun spots, another telltale sign of aging. Chemical peels can help to remove old, damaged layers of skin to reveal fresh, smoother skin underneath. Chemical peels not only help with exfoliating and fading sun spots, but also can help improve skin laxity. While peels can lead to some redness and scaling of the skin, most patients report side effects clearing up in under a week. In order to achieve best possible results, patients may need to undergo a series of chemical peels combined with skin care products.
