Vaginoplasty

While aesthetics and rejuvenation have traditionally referred to face and body, vaginal and pelvic floor rejuvenation have grown in popularity in the last few years—and for good reason.  Much like our faces and bodies, vaginas go through many changes over a lifetime, and these changes can affect a woman’s self-confidence and wellbeing.  At Aviva Plastic Surgery, vaginal and intimate health rejuvenation procedures have become a popular option for women looking to improve their health and regain sexual and intimate confidence.

What Is A Vaginoplasty?

A vaginoplasty is a surgical treatment some women choose to enhance the appearance or function of their vagina. Vaginoplasty may help address concerns such as vaginal laxity or alterations in the vagina shape.

For some women, vaginal laxity can develop after pregnancy, childbirth, aging, or changes in weight. Vaginoplasty can help tighten the vaginal muscles and tissues, restoring a sense of tone and firmness. This can contribute to improved sexual satisfaction and may address any discomfort or decreased sensation that the individual may experience. In addition to addressing laxity, vaginoplasty can also be performed to alter the shape of the vaginal opening or the surrounding structures.

My doctor is amazing! She always made me feel comfortable when I went in for my Votiva services and kept me informed every part of the way. I am more than satisfied with my results and will be referring my friends to Aviva. Thank you,

How Is A Vaginoplasty Performed?

Our physicians work to remove the unneeded vaginal lining (aka mucosa) and stitch the vaginal tissue and levator ani muscles for tightening. A vaginoplasty often shows vaginal tightening at 60-70% in vaginal length from the opening. In the perineoplasty procedure, our doctors aesthetically enhance, lift, and tighten the vaginal opening and perineum. Although the perineoplasty results in a greatly tightened vaginal opening, it does not solely address complete vaginal tightening. For a vaginoplasty procedure, physicians focus on surgical readjustment of levator ani and transverse perineal muscles to align with the vaginal midline. This focuses more on internal vaginal tightening for stronger taut vaginal linings.

Are you a good candidate for a vaginoplasty?

Good candidates for vaginal rejuvenation surgery should be in good physical and psychological health, and have realistic expectations regarding the risks, benefits, and recovery from surgery. Candidates for vaginoplasty may be bothered by symptoms including:

  • Loose/ stretched vaginal canal or vagina
  • Decreased sexual response caused by lax or stretched tissues
  • Stretched or weakened vagina
  • Incontinence
  • Poorly healed incisions or tears following childbirth
  • Vaginal flatus or “passing air”

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all.  The vaginoplasty treatment is not painful, and our staff takes great care to help decrease anxiety and discomfort during surgery. Our patients describe feeling very comfortable and feeling only occasional pressure after receiving relaxing medications, long-lasting numbing medicine, and ProNox gas (relaxing laughing gas) during vaginoplasty surgery.

Most patients experience a mild-moderate amount of discomfort for the days following the vaginoplasty procedure; and this usually results from pressure in the rectum and pelvic regions. Our Doctor recommends taking prescription pain medication in the week following vaginoplasty to help manage discomfort. On average, patients heal within approximately 6 weeks post procedure. They are able and willing to return to normal, non-strenuous activities within 2-5 days. However, patients should plan on a one-week break from work for recovery. Additionally, penetrative sexual activity should be avoided for a minimum of 6 weeks post-procedure to ensure full healing of the affected area.

Our patients display tighter vaginal tissues which results in a refreshed sexual response, decreased urinary incontinence, less vaginal canal laxity, and a sense of heightened self-confidence.

Yes, combining a vaginoplasty with a labiaplasty allows for comprehensive aesthetic and functional enhancements, tailored to each patient’s unique needs and desires. Many patients chose to combine their vaginoplasty and labiaplasty procedures to achieve their ideal aesthetic and functional goals.

The cost of a vaginoplasty will depend on your individual needs. Therefore, first, our doctors assess and evaluate your personal aesthetic needs in a consultation appointment. Our staff will advise you on the cost and address any questions or concerns.

Insurance coverage for vaginoplasty and labiaplasty procedures can vary depending on your insurance provider and the specific circumstances surrounding your individual concerns. Most cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance.  While we do not contract with insurance companies, we offer competitive treatment pricing and a number of financing options to make treatment affordable.
