Description
This 5-week-old girl was brought in by her mother with concerns of a misshapen or “folded over” right ear. Our facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman treated her with Earwell newborn ear correction, which is a painless, nonsurgical ear-shaping treatment. The baby is shown with an excellent treatment outcome after 4 weeks of treatment.
Newborn babies have very soft ear cartilages because of high levels of circulating maternal estrogens; these hormones make the ear cartilage soft and pliable, which makes the non-surgical ear reshaping treatment possible during the first 6-8 weeks of life. For best results, newborn ear correction should be started as soon as possible, and ideally within the first 2 weeks of life; starting treatment as early as possible helps improve the chance of a successful outcome. This treatment does not require any sedation, numbing, or anesthesia, and is painless (it feels like putting on and taking off a Band-aid).
