Description
This 2-week-old boy was referred by his Pediatrician for concern of ear deformity, and presented with mild constriction or “pinching” of the outer rim of the ear. Our facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman treated him with Earwell nonsurgical newborn ear correction, gently reshaping and opening up the ear’s curvature over the course of 5 weeks. This is a painless, non-invasive, and permanent reshaping treatment which can allow most patients to avoid corrective surgery later on.
Congenital ear deformity, or misshapen ears, can be found in 30% of newborns. Some deformities can be mild, while others can make the ears look significantly misshapen. Newborn ear correction, whether with the Earwell system, Earbuddies, or custom ear splints, is an effective but time-sensitive treatment which should be started as soon as possible–ideally within 2 weeks–after birth for highest chances of success.
