Description
This 2-week-old boy was brought in by his parents with concerns of newborn ear deformity. His ears looked “scrunched up” and had not significantly improved since birth. Our facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman treated him with Earwell nonsurgical newborn ear correction, using gentle molding techniques to reshape the ears over the course of 7 weeks. The patient is shown immediately after finishing therapy, with a great outcome and an uneventful treatment course.
Newborn children can have misshapen, folded-over, or misformed ears, and these can be treated without surgery in the first few weeks of the baby’s life. During this time, the ear cartilage is soft, and can be reshaped with molding or splinting techniques. Non-surgical ear correction has a high satisfaction rate among parents and medical professionals, and allows patients and families to avoid corrective surgery at a later time.
