Description

This 6-year-old boy faced lots of teasing from his peers about his ears, and reporting hating how his ears looked.  Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman treated him with otoplasty, or surgical ear shaping, to bring his ears closer to the head.  The patient is shown 1 day after surgery, with an excellent short-term result.  His ears will become less red and swollen during healing, usually taking a few weeks to heal completely.

We offer both non-surgical and surgical ear reshaping at our practice; while non-surgical ear reshaping is effective in only the newborn and very young infant patients, surgical ear reshaping (or otoplasty) may be performed in adults and children as young as 5-6 years old.

About Otoplasty Procedure

Prominent or “stuck-out” ears can be a source of peer ridicule and teasing both for adults and children.  While protruding or misshapen ears may be corrected with non-surgical newborn correction, surgical correction is required for older children and adults.  Our facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman performs otoplasty surgery to correct abnormally protruding or misshapen ears, treating both children and adults. Otoplasty commonly involves the shaping of the ear cartilage and tucking the ear closer to a more aesthetically pleasing position with the head and facial outline.  Dr. Fishman does otoplasty surgery as a standalone procedure, or commonly combines it with rhinoplasty or blepharoplasty.Learn More About Otoplasty
