Description
This 34-year-old woman came to us interested in improving the appearance and feel of her labia minora, or inner folds of skin just outside the vaginal opening. She felt self-conscious about her intimate appearance, and worried about her labial appearance during sexual intimacy and with waxing. She had no history of pregnancies or childbirth. She had also researched labiaplasty surgery for years, but was hesitant to proceed with it as she thought it would require general anesthesia in the operating room; and the patient’s family had some serious complications with general anesthesia in the past.
We treated this young woman with a bilateral (both-sided) curvilinear labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction to take away the excessively long inner labial tissues and contour the too-long tissues around the clitoris for overall aesthetic balance. Here, the patient is shown 5 weeks after her labiaplasty surgery, with approximately 80% of her swelling resolved and excellent healing progress; her incisions are healing beautifully, and the remaining dissolvable stitches have been removed. She is also shown here immediately after her surgery. At 5 weeks after surgery, she reports much improved comfort and increased self-confidence about her appearance; our patient is happy to say “I should have done this years ago, and you are truly making women’s lives better.”
Our patient had her treatment awake and relaxed in the comfort and privacy of our clinic, and was thrilled to see her results immediately after surgery. She did not receive general anesthesia, and was very comfortable with by-mouth relaxing medications and ProNox (laughing gas). She will continue to heal and resolve swelling over the next 3-6 months; during this time, the labial tissues become less puffy and more contoured, while the incisions heal to essentially invisible.
While labia and vaginas come in a wide array of shapes and appearances, some women feel uncomfortable with too-long or stretched or asymmetric labial tissues, and want this improved after puberty, weight changes, pregnancy, childbirth, or menopause. We frequently combine labiaplasty procedures with clitoral hood reduction, growth factor injections for improved sensitivity and sexual health, and vaginal rejuvenation to achieve optimal intimate health for our patients.
