Description

This 32-year-old woman came to our practice interested in labiaplasty to address her long-standing comfort and appearance concerns.  She was bothered by her inner labia tissue getting caught in clothing, with associated rubbing and discomfort, and reported feeling self-conscious about the appearance of her labia starting in her teenage years.  On exam, she had moderately long labia minora tissue, a moderate amount of clitoral hood redundancy, as well as perineal laxity from previous childbirths.

We treated this patient with a bilateral (both-sided) curvilinear labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction to take away the excessively long inner labial skin and contour the too-long tissues around the clitoris for overall aesthetic balance.  We performed a perineoplasty to tighten the perineum (the space of tissue between the vagina and anus).  We also removed 2 small skin tags at the left thigh crease.  The patient is shown 6 weeks after her labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction, and perineoplasty surgery, with a beautiful result and improved symmetry.  She has normal and expected post-operative swelling, and her tissues will continue to become less puffy in appearance over the next 6 months.  Our patient is also shown here immediately after her surgery.

Our patient had her treatment awake and relaxed in the comfort and privacy of our clinic, and was excited to see her results immediately after surgery.  She did not receive general anesthesia, and was very comfortable during her treatment with relaxing by-mouth medications, ProNox (laughing gas), and injected numbing medicine.

Labia and vaginas come in a wide array of normal shapes and sizes.  Even with normal anatomy, some women feel uncomfortable with too-long or stretched or asymmetric labial tissues, which can develop after puberty, weight changes, pregnancy, or childbirth.  We frequently combine labiaplasty procedures with clitoral hood reduction, perineoplasty, growth factor injections for improved sensitivity and sexual health, and vaginal rejuvenation to achieve optimal intimate health and self-confidence for our patients.

About Surgical Labiaplasty

Enlarged or uneven labia minora (the inner lips of tissue surrounding the vaginal opening) are effectively treated with the common (though uncommonly discussed) procedure called labiaplasty.  For most women, the labia minora are for the most part covered by the labia majora (outer lips).  In others, however, genetics, puberty, aging and pregnancy can cause the inner lips to extend beyond the outer lips.  Some women can experience discomfort and irritation with overly long labia minora, leading to discomfort in clothing, during exercise, and with sexual relationships, while other women may just be bothered by the appearance of the labia.  Labiaplasty treatments can address these concerns. We have expertise in both surgical and non-surgical labiaplasty to help women feel their most confident and address any intimate anatomy concerns.Learn More About Surgical Labiaplasty
