- Dr. Inessa Fishman
This 27-year-old woman wanted a more shapely, fuller upper lip and a shorter distance between her nose and upper lip border. Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman treated her with a surgical upper lip lift, also known as a bullhorn lip lift, performing the procedure in the office, with patient awake and relaxed with laughing gas. The patient is shown 8 months after treatment, with excellent healing progress and a beautiful, natural result.
The upper lip lift is a powerful facial balancing procedure for patients with a too-long or stretched upper lip. Some patients note their lip elongates with age or with excessive injectable dermal filler use. The upper lip lift procedure is commonly performed by itself, or in combination with other treatments, like blepharoplasty/ eyelid lifting or CO2 laser facial resurfacing. When lip lifting is the only procedure on the treatment plan, we commonly perform it in the comfort of our luxurious clinic, with the patient awake and relaxed with by-mouth relaxing medications, laughing gas, and injected numbing medicine. Recovery from a lip lift is usually 7-10 days of swelling and sometimes mild bruising.
About Lip Lift Procedure
Age, genetics, and sometimes a previous history of lip filler treatments can lead to an overly long white lip (the skin between the bottom of the nose and the red lip border) and too-short height of the red lip (the part of the upper lip where we place lipstick). This creates disharmony within the facial balance, can make the face look too long or sad, and can lead to an unnatural or aged appearance of the face and mouth. A lip lift procedure shortens the distance between the nose and upper lip and helps to contour greater volume within the upper lip; this is a powerful treatment to bring balance to the mouth and lower face. Commonly performed in combination with a facelift and lip augmentation with fat grafting, a lip lift is an effective way for the carefully selected patient to put her best face forward.
