Description
This 31-year-old woman came to our practice interested in improving the appearance and feel of her inner labia. As a fitness instructor who “lives in her yoga pants,” she frequently felt the need to rearrange her tissues in clothing. She also reported frequent urinary tract infections often followed by yeast infections after antibiotic use, and was wondering whether labiaplasty can help improve this. This young woman also disliked the asymmetric appearance of her inner labia, and was bothered by the appearance of the inner labia protruding beyond the level of the outer labia. She has not been pregnant or delivered children in the past.  On exam, she had moderately long labia minora tissue and a moderate amount of clitoral hood redundancy and perineal tissue redundancy.
We treated this patient with a bilateral (both-sided) curvilinear labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction to take away the excessively long inner labial skin and contour the too-long tissues around the clitoris for overall aesthetic balance. The patient also had a perineoplasty to remove the excess tissue at her perineum (space between the vagina and anus). The patient is shown 4 weeks after her labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction, and perineoplasty surgery, with a beautiful result and improved symmetry. She has normal and expected resolving swelling, and her tissues will continue to become less puffy in appearance over the next 6 months. She is also shown here immediately after her treatment.
Our patient had her treatment awake and relaxed in the comfort and privacy of our clinic, and was excited to see her results immediately after surgery. She did not receive general anesthesia, and was very comfortable during her treatment with relaxing medications, ProNox (laughing gas), and injected numbing medicine.
Labia and vaginas come in an wide array of normal shapes and sizes. While they have normal anatomy, some women feel uncomfortable with too-long or stretched or asymmetric labial tissues, which can develop after puberty, weight changes, pregnancy, or childbirth. We frequently combine labiaplasty procedures with clitoral hood reduction, perineoplasty, growth factor injections for improved sensitivity and sexual health, and vaginal rejuvenation to achieve optimal intimate health for our patients.
Our aesthetic surgeon Dr. Inessa Fishman has an extensive background and experience in aesthetics and surgery, having completed as Aesthetic Gynecology fellowship in addition to her plastic surgery training. Women’s wellness is both her passion and ours, and we take pride in caring for our patients with intimate wellness and sexual health concerns.
