Description

This 24-year-old woman came to our practice with an interest in labiaplasty; she wanted to address her labial appearance concerns and discomfort. She was bothered by the protrusion of her inner labia (hairless fold of skin around the vagina opening) beyond the border of the outer labia (also called the labia majora, or the normally hair-bearing folds of skin just outside the labia minora), and frequently felt uncomfortable during the day, having to shift and rearrange her tissue in clothing.  On physical exam, the young woman showed excessively long labia minora and clitoral hood skin.

We treated her with a bilateral (both-sided) labiaplasty to shorten the labia minora, and clitoral hood reduction to balance the overall appearance of this with the rest of the labia.  Our patient had her treatment awake and relaxed with by-mouth medications and laughing gas (also called ProNox); she remembers nothing besides listening to music and receiving the relaxing by-mouth medications.  She is shown 5 months after treatment, with a natural-appearing, a more balanced outcome, and much increase confidence in her intimate appearance; and her concerns of labia irritation are completely gone.  She is also shown here, immediately after her surgery; and here, 2 weeks after her surgery.

Labia and vaginas come in many colors, shapes, and sizes, and all are completely normal.  This said, some women want to change their appearance, improve function, or both, and we like to partner with them to create a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic experience to address their concerns.  In addition to labiaplasty, we offer vaginal rejuvenation, Botox for improving sexual health; filler to improve the stimulation and sensitivity of the G-spot, and labial puffing to add volume and contour to the labia majora.  Our women’s wellness expert Dr. Inessa Fishman brings her experience as a woman, mother, surgeon, and physician to intimate wellness, and boasts a cosmetic gynecology fellowship in addition to her plastic surgery expertise.

About Surgical Labiaplasty

Enlarged or uneven labia minora (the inner lips of tissue surrounding the vaginal opening) are effectively treated with the common (though uncommonly discussed) procedure called labiaplasty.  For most women, the labia minora are for the most part covered by the labia majora (outer lips).  In others, however, genetics, puberty, aging and pregnancy can cause the inner lips to extend beyond the outer lips.  Some women can experience discomfort and irritation with overly long labia minora, leading to discomfort in clothing, during exercise, and with sexual relationships, while other women may just be bothered by the appearance of the labia.  Labiaplasty treatments can address these concerns. We have expertise in both surgical and non-surgical labiaplasty to help women feel their most confident and address any intimate anatomy concerns.Learn More About Surgical Labiaplasty
